Essentials for natural portraits without the worry

learn 6 ways to choose your outfits for happy, confident portraits

The problem with most of us is that we have our favourite outfit. We wear it to special occasions,  pick up the same handbag for the evening and look under the bed for sexy our heels. It’s easy to default the same colours, style and outfit to give us a sense of occasion.

Not many people know that our favourite outfit isn’t necessarily the one that create stylish portraits during a photo session.

Great-looking portraits are created when we make the right choices for our photos, locations and style. If you’ve always been interested in how photo sessions transform a person, here’s how!

“The only real elegance is in the mind; if you’ve got that, the rest really comes from it.” — Diana Vreeland

#1 Streamlined shapes

You can’t beat the T-shirt bra. Your clothes will hang better and you’ll love the confidence having flattering profiles give you!

#2 Dress for yourself

Choose outfits that give you confidence, flatter your figure and makes you feel proud. The extent of your efforts will be reflected in your portraits.

#3 Listen to mum

Or your friend. Or your gut instincts. As soon as you try something on and peer in the mirror. If you love it straight away, result! If you have to think about it, try again!

#4 Wear solid colours

Wearing solid colours will lead the viewer to your face.

#5 Try textures

If you tend to wear a lot of the same colours, when you are picking out your boots, coat or scarf, instead of opting for your favourite colour. Try textures  – woollen or silk scarves, lace brocade or faux-fur. You’ll be amazed how good they look!

#6 Take a photo with your phone

Remember colours work well together if they are of the same tones EXAMPLE! Take a snap shot on your phone. Convert it to black and white. How do they look? Better still, email them to your photographer for further advice.

Remember – smile, play, and love. The only elegance is in your mind,  so don’t spend too much time in front of the mirror.
