Living Room Portraits in Ryde
Huge shout out to Solene, without her I couldn’t have realised another ambition. Recently returning from her life in Hong Kong, Solene works with a wide variety of talented photographers on the island.
This weekend it was my turn!
I’ve been talking about my window-lit series a lot this year and if you missed my portrait tips, I definitely recommend you go back and read how I plan my portrait sessions in Ryde.
Solene did a brilliant job of explaining how she supports local photographers, whilst I shared how I build relationships with the people I photograph (using confidence boosting tricks to establish trust which, ultimately, creates pictures you’ll love).
I’m hoping I WOWed Solene and created an easy going rapport.
It’s easy to become out of sync with life, and it’s hard to break bad habits – everyone has the same struggles. No-one is perfect and, just like the rest of us, we all have self-doubts. During Solene’s session I attempted to recreate a picture I’d kept on my phone for six months. It seemed such an easy thing to achieve and yet success evaded me.
And that’s OK. Instead of telling myself ‘I’ve failed’, and struggling with what I can and cannot do, I focused on Solene’s happy disposition, her cheerful chatter and ability to spread love and kindness to a struggling photographer.
And I want you to do the same. Say goodbye to the idea that you’re not pretty enough to be photographed. Stop trying to ‘fix’ yourself and forget telling yourself ‘you’re broken’.
Whether you’re single, engaged or married or in a new relationship, the most important thing you need to hear right now is to love yourself. Show your beauty inside and out, you deserve it.
