Portrait Tips – Ryde – Isle of Wight Portrait Photographer
The magic ingredient to natural portraits?
Posture
The next time you’re about to have your photograph taken, try this:
- Sit or stand in a comfortable position.
- Lengthen your spine and ‘sit up tall’.
- Relax the shoulders.
- Open up ‘your heart’.
- Lift up your chin without tilting the head back.
Then take a deep breath – look confidently towards the camera.
These tricks work for everyone ….
Tip 1 – find a comfortable position – resting poses on benches, walls or bridges are perfect.
Tip 2 – lengthen your spine, chest open and take a deep breath to create a confident impression.
Tip 3 – squeeze your shoulder blades together to create elegant neck lines.
Tip 4 – an open heart means shoulder blades drop down, arms in your back pockets or leaning forward over the belt. This creates depth and reduces the appearance of double chins.
Tip 5 – look in the mirror and try ‘chin forward and down’. It really helps to slenderise the neck line.
