Natural, relaxed portraits in Ryde, Isle of Wight
I met S. in my home to create these professional headshots. It felt really good to plan a straight forward session that lasted one hour. While the photographs below are classically posed, the smooth grey is the perfect backdrop for clean images and beautiful light to create clear, crisp portraits.
S. wanted to update his social media images to reflects his true personality in a flattering profile. The neutral clothes allow the focus to be on his features, a modern gaze that creates a handsome profile. Let’s see how it all came about.
Can you do it all by yourself?
discover why successful portraits need 2 people – you.me.and the camera
The problem with custom photography is that most of us don’t know what ‘lifestyle photography’ or ‘ captured with natural light’ means. How do we find out? We browse the internet, sigh over the beautiful images, and become distracted by the next web page. It’s easy to lose your way and stall making a commitment. You can’t do it all by yourself. Great-looking portraits are created when you enlist the help of your local photographer. Let them show you how.
#1 Set Goals
An effective portrait is about 2 people – YOU and the photographer. If you look at a person’s portrait and are drawn to their personality—if you feel that you know something about them. Then the photographer has done a good job. Set a goal with your photographer, “I want to show the love between my children” or “I want to surprise my husband for his birthday”. Then your photographer can capture your reality and interpretation. The photographs will show the love between your children and you will be able to feel their connection.
#2 Choose a location
Where you choose to be photographed will affect the clothes you wear. Ask your photographer to select somewhere that reflects the type of photograph you need. This will help create a portrait with greater longevity. For example, a framed photograph for Gran might require a traditional location or a modern print for the kitchen will draw on light, bright colours. A professional photographer will listen to your thoughts before making any suggestions and then offer guidance that will make your choices easy.
#3 Be kind to yourself
Most people ask for photographs that “look natural”. View a photographer’s gallery, is their portfolio full of happy people that look their best? Select a photographer that is confident to move you through the photo session to create flattering images. Be kind to yourself and choose a professional that can communicate what works and why letting your best side shine through. You deserve a photographer that’ll take into consideration how best to flatter you or your family.
