Create natural portraits with style
I love going away for the weekend. Even a quick dash to the Isle of Wight is like an escape from the humdrum of city living. Under my bed lives my weekend getaway, a small sports bag with just enough to help me survive a weekend without the stress. I’ve reducing packing to a fine art, so below are my tips for what to include in your sports bag when getting ready for a portrait session in Ryde.
A busy working week isn’t the best thing when preparing for your portrait session.
Here’s how to get ready for your lifestyle portrait session on the Isle of Wight without the stress.
#1 Jewellery
Jewellery, real and costume, is a great way to style an outfit. One or two select items adds a polished feel without becoming too fussy. I also use long necklaces, bangles, and ear-rings as a way to calm jingly nerves. Tweaking an ear-ring, lifting a bangle, or holding onto a necklace gives your hands something to do and removes tension from your hands.
#2 Belts
These can help finish an outfit. Worn right, they can enhance your figure and flatter your waist.
#3 Bags
Sometimes a bag casually placed at your feet adds a sense of reality to your portrait. A candid moment captured perfectly. Handbags are also an extension of your personality, so decide what image you want to convey.
#4 Scarves
I’m a huge fan of scarves. Not only are they easy to pack, but they can transform an outfit quickly. Scarves can be adapted into belts, hair ties, shawls and summery saris to add immediate variety to your outfit.

#5 Bracelets
Bracelets, bangles, watches, and hair ties are the little touches that add to your complete look. If the hair tie or watch doesn’t suit the style you are aiming for, we might hide them away. On the other hand, colour bangles or a sentimental bracelet can ensure your story is told.
#6 Glasses and sunglasses
Possibly the easiest way to mix up an outfit. If you naturally wear glasses, we will capture your portrait as you look every day. You can hold them, clutch them between your fingers, and rest them on your forehead. I also wear glasses but chose to remove them for my bio picture. Everyone looks great sunglasses! Ask ‘The Fonz’.
You know what, a new outfit won’t make you a better person. If you feel good, you’ll look great – the confidence a well-chosen outfit gives you is priceless. Better still, this will translate into your natural portraits in London – your pictures will reflect the confident person you are. Life is for love, laughter, and friends, so don’t spend too much time peering in the mirror. Get out there and enjoy yourself!
