Want to get the best from your session without the drama?
learn how to feel confident whilst enjoying your portrait session
A good photographer will know how to quickly build a positive rapport with children and families. You want to find someone who can get the best out of you and look beyond flattering poses, but connect with your spirit and outlook on life. The key to success during your portrait session is communication, planning, and an open mind. Here’s what you can do to get the best from your session whilst feeling confident during the process.
Professional photographers are adept at reading a person’s character right from the get-go. Although it is difficult to convey the complexity of relationships in a single image, portrait photographers strive to add depth and dimension to a picture through storytelling. Their goal is to provide an insight into your life, love, or family.
#1 Ask questions
A good photographer will provide as much information as possible about your session. You want to feel confident about your experience from start to finish – how to book, on the day, ordering and delivery of photographs.
#2 Share your story
Every good picture tells a story. Share yours with the photographer ahead of time. Ask if they have a questionnaire to complete. It’s the quickest way to communicate your hopes for the session without getting tongue-tied.
#3 Get everyone on-board
Planning ahead with children or reluctant spouses (yes, it’s a common refrain) is key to a relaxed session without the drama. Visit the park with your children ahead of time so they can re-enact the fun and games during their last visit. Scheduling a time slot that doesn’t clash with other commitments will also leave people feeling less rushed. Knowing what to expect and anticipating dramas will leave feeling in control and ready to enjoy the process.
#4 Pack early
Take pride in your family and pack your outfits well ahead of time in a small bag with wheels. Most photographers are eager to help you co-ordinate your outfits, ready to dive in with ideas and suggestions. Have a look at their ‘what to wear’ guide or Pinterest board for inspiration.
#5 Use Google maps
Plan your journey ahead of time with google maps or Transport for London. Your photographer will arrive half an hour ahead of the session, so don’t be worried about turning up early. Time dedicated to your session translates into a greater variety of successful images to choose from.
#6 Have fun
Often this is the first time you will have experienced a professional portrait session in Bethnal Green. People are always surprised at how much fun they are. Custom photography is a luxury and a positive experience. Make the most of it.
