What is natural portraiture?
This blog post is about compelling and remarkable pictures – natural portraits for you to share on your website, social media and business cards.
What is natural portraiture?
It’s about real people, in real locations, expressing real emotions.
During your session I won’t get caught up with technicalities or let the camera come between us having a good time. I want to get the best, natural, beautiful pictures you’ve ever taken.
And I promise you’ll have fun.
My philosophy about natural portraits is this ….. it’s not about the camera, but drawing out and expressing, genuine, authentic, compelling expression.
Of course I love my gear, what photographer doesn’t. But that’s only part of the story.
We can bring out great concepts, great mood, great storytelling, great locations – but the magic ingredient is YOU!
I’ll share my tips and techniques that will give you great natural portraits.
After, ‘what to wear’ the most popular request it to look ‘natural, not like a catalogue model’. It’s all communication – what we say, what we talk about, what we find out about each other. I influence how you look and feel, which shines through in your images.
I also direct how to stand in flattering angles, so you feel in involved in the process.
Looking good in photographs is about good posture – so I’ll remind you to stand tall, breathe and relax your shoulders.
It’s that easy.
Creating great photos doesn’t mean you need to be a professional model! We can do it anywhere where there’s great light, beautiful backdrops and a willingness to play with it. After 10 years in photography (and over 15 in education), I don’t think there’s one person who’s arrived feeling completely confident about their portrait session.
There’s nothing I enjoy more than working with people – that momentary connection we create, laughing like we’re old friends. Surprising them with how easy it is create beautiful images that look natural.
And you can do it too.
I produce stylish portraits for the modern professionals that are neither cliched nor formulaic. The portraits in my portfolio are full of character and detail, captured during relaxed sessions that are ever-practical and fun – so they are easy on the purse strings and appreciated by couples or individuals too.
