Here’s how we created something special for Ellie
Getting the one-shot of Ellie that ‘says it all’ about the love for her pet snakes and her close friendship with those around her is a fantastic challenge to set yourself when meeting a professional photographer for the first time.
No wonder most people put off booking their portrait session for another day – but not for Ellie.
Here’s how we created a defining shot that conveys her character in an instant.
As soon as I met Ellie, full of smiles and excitement, I suggested with think of this portrait experience as a game – our task was to shoot the cover of a glossy magazine that tells the story of your life, love, and laughter. Take a quick look at the shots on this page and you’ll see that they’re all-natural, flattering images that immediately convey Ellie’s personality, outlook on life, and passion for outdoor living.
We didn’t need to force poses or create static smiles in these great examples of happy portraits, because we chose the right location. As soon as Ellie booked her date, my first question was ‘where do you live?’ I wanted to find an easy location that was perfect for her outfits and outlook for life – getting the right location is key to ensure the pictures are powerful enough to do all the work.
Ellie and I chatted away like old friends as we walked to our first corner, tucked away from busy pathways on Firestone Copse. Once we’d got a feel for each other, we agreed to capture photographs that say something about who Ellie is, rather than awkward images that look staged.
Cheesy smiles are the norm for many family portraits, but we wanted something more. I worked hard to create a series of images that said it all about Ellie’s sweet nature and happy personality. Once we’d found a flattering frame for Ellie, I gently encouraged her to show her confidence in front of the camera to find her iconic smile. I wanted to create a look that hasn’t been done a million times before.
This creative approach with a relaxed style is a great way to support shy clients in their first professional portrait session. I always aim to go above and beyond whilst delivering something special for each and every client.
I produce stylish portraits for modern women that are neither cliched nor formulaic. The portraits in my portfolio are full of character and detail, captured during relaxed sessions that are ever-practical and fun – so they are easy on the purse strings and appreciated by couples or families too.
