What happens on a photo shoot?
I believe the best moments are captured when people are truly relaxed, but I understand as well as you do that having a big camera lens shoved in your face is unlikely to help you relax. When you book a natural portrait session with me, it’s my job to find your real character, and to help you shake off that nervousness and apprehension that you are undoubtedly feeling.
Why did we think that saying cheese would make us look happy? As much as I like cheese, fake smiles of any description are a big no-no. They never reach as far as the eyes, and your portraits will lack your natural sparkle that I so love to capture. So when you come book a natural portrait by a London photographer session with me, expect to have some real fun.
Your portraits will show laughter and warmth
What to expect from your natural portrait session
Laughs, and lots of them: When you laugh, and I mean really laugh, your whole face will light up, your eyes will sparkle and your smile will grow. During a natural portrait sessions I’ll do whatever I can to make you laugh, whether that’s telling a silly joke, getting you to do silly things yourself or just fooling around.
We’ll laugh, a lot.
I like to move it, move it: Movement is one of the best ways to get you to relax and enjoy your day with me. Maybe I’ll get you to run towards the camera, do a little dance or twirl like a ballerina (yes boys, you too) because all these little motions bring energy and life to your portraits, and help your body to get into the swing of the shoot.
Movement helps you relax
Did you ever…: Asking questions is an excellent way to break down the barriers that nervousness can build. Contemplative expressions and twinkling eyes all happen naturally when you’re thinking about the answer, so put your thinking cap on before you arrive.
Talk it out: I love to hear stories from my natural portrait subjects, and that’s not because I’m nosey. When you tell me about something, the animation and emotion that flickers across your face can’t be beaten.
Good, old fashioned silliness: Yes, I might ask you to do some silly things, such as standing on one leg or doing the hokey-cokey. This is not because I want you to feel foolish, or because I’m trying to capture unflattering moments. What I’m looking for is that moment after the silliness, when the relief of finishing the activity reveals a moment of pure relaxation and some of the most natural smiles possible.
Play with it
Quiet times: Amongst all the dancing, laughing, posing and silliness, we’ll also spend some quiet times too. I might just ask you to sit and look at a view, or to think deeply about something for a while. Here, we find you relaxed, natural and at ease with the world.
Feel at ease.
