Beginner female portrait photo shoots
Quite simply, beginners who need female portrait photo shoots need to hire a professional photographer that knows their stuff.
Dare I say, a female photographer that has worked for over ten years with women (& men) who would describe themselves as ‘first timers’ and are looking for flattering photos of themselves.
Most people pick up the phone to call me. And I always offer my help. Take Beatrice below, during our conversation, she talks about her vision for soulful imagery for her 2023 gigs, if she’ll receive enough images to fill her social media accounts monthly, and what type of props she’ll need.
During our conversations, positive energy is generated and a glorious project is about to begin. Our feel-good motivation inspires us to produce high-quality imagery that conveys B’s pride, energy, and tenacity as she moves forward.

Female portrait photo shoots for beginners
Bethan below wants photos for her social media (and lots of them). She uses social media to advertise where she is performing as a singer. She accompanies each post with a photograph that reflects the soulful narrative in her lyrics.
Although not a beginner (she’s worked with lots of talented photographers on the island) she is ready to take her online persona in a fresh, adventurous direction. And she wants to feel in a safe pair of hands.
On the phone, she describes her intention to use her photographs to display her soulful songwriting, personality, and even a dreamy mood in her portraits.
During the conversation, we talk about what style of portraits she would like. I often ask these questions to help:
- Do you want a traditional posed photo shoot with everyone looking at the camera?
- Or would you prefer a more candid approach where the subjects are caught in natural conversation or laughter?
- Perhaps you would like a mix of both styles.
Once you have decided on the style of portraits you would like, it is time to start thinking about wardrobe and location.

How to make your portraits pop: simple tips for female portrait photo shoots
When it comes to making your portrait photos pop, there are a few key things you can do to make sure your photos turn out looking amazing.
First, find a good location with plenty of natural light. I work in locations that have gorgeous buttery evening light as well as employing my studio lights to ensure a little sparkle in your eyes.
Second, make sure you are relaxed and comfortable before you start shooting. If you read my reviews you will get a sense of how I truly care about how you feel during the session. I move mountains to make you receive practical tips delivered in a matter-of-fact way. You’ll know what to do, how you look, and why it works. All were presented in a supportive, understated manner with some giggles and laughter thrown in.
And third, don’t be afraid to experiment with different poses and angles to get the best possible shot. Take a leap of faith. Feeling confident during photo shoots is like dipping into the sea for a summer swim. At first, you are nervous about the waves. But once you take the plunge, you feel confident and enjoy the experience.
As your photographer, it is my job to help you transform from someone who suffers from self-doubt to someone who is able to enjoy the experience and challenge your low self-esteem with an experience that makes you feel uplifted.
The positive impact on your outlook is noticeable in the photographs we create.
