Why girls need studio headshots

As an actor, your headshot is your calling card. It’s the first impression you make on casting directors, agents, and managers-so it’s important that your headshot looks professional.

While you can take a DIY approach to headshots (and many actors do), there are some definite benefits to working with a professional photographer in a studio setting. Here are four reasons why girls need studio headshots:

  1. Studio headshots are well-lit and properly exposed.

Natural light is great for taking candid shots, but when it comes to headshots, you want to make sure that your features are nicely illuminated. A professional photographer will know how to use lighting to flatter your face, and they’ll also have the proper equipment to get the job done right.

  1. Studio headshots are high resolution.

When it comes to professional photos, be they for your website or for print, high resolution is always best. High-resolution photos always look better than low-resolution ones. They’re crisper and clearer, and thus more professional looking.

  1. Studio headshots are flattering.

First, you want to make sure you’re working with a professional photographer who knows how to light and pose you in a way that is flattering.

Second, it’s important to have a variety of looks for your headshots so that you can show off your range as an actor.

And finally, don’t forget that your headshot should represent who you are as an actor – so make sure it captures your personality!

The right way to take a studio headshot

Decide what kind of look you’re going for. Do you want something natural and relaxed, or something more polished and formal? Once you know the vibe you’re going for, it will be easier to find a photographer who can help you achieve it.

Most aspiring models and actresses have headshots taken in a studio. But what is the right way to take a studio headshot?

Here are a few tips for taking the perfect studio headshot:

  1. Make sure you’ve prepared a variety of ‘looks’ or ‘personas’ you want to present. That way you’ll get the greatest amount of variety in the shortest amount of time.
  2. Plan backgrounds that compliment your outfit and look. In these photographs, we used neutral colours that flattered Cary’s Irish skin tones as well as coloured backgrounds that harmonize with her beautiful hair.
  3. Be relaxed and confident in front of the camera.

What to wear for your studio headshot

Think about your clothing choices. What will help you feel most comfortable and confident in front of the camera? Solid colours tend to work well for headshots, so consider that as you make your selections.

No matter what industry you’re in or what age you are, your headshot is one of the most important photos you’ll ever take. A good headshot can help you land a job, get published, or attract new clients. But with so much riding on this one photo, it can be hard to know what to wear.

Here are some tips for choosing the right outfit for your studio headshot:

  1. Avoid anything too trendy or fashion-forward. You want your headshot to look timeless, not like it was taken last season. Stick to classic pieces in neutral colours like black, white, navy, or grey. This tip is particularly important for child actors, as they tend to change so quickly as they grow.
  2. Steer clear of busy patterns or logos. Again, you want the focus to be on you and not your clothes. Opt for solid colours or simple patterns like stripes or polka dots. Again, children’s clothes tend to be stylised and can become ‘aged’ or off-trend very quickly.
  3. Let your child decide what outfits to pack. Teenagers are young adults and very often have their own ideas and styles. They will enjoy their studio headshots more if they take an active role in choosing their outfits.

How to prepare for your studio headshot session

1 week – First, it’s important to think about what kind of image you want to project. Do you want to look approachable and friendly? Or serious and professional?

3 days – Once you know the kind of image you want to project, you can start thinking about what to wear. Send a screenshot of the outfits you’d like to wear to your photographer. They will be able to offer last minute guidance.

1 day – Pack your bag the night before with all of the essentials: water, snacks, makeup touch-ups, and extra hair ties.

On the day – It’s the day of your big headshot session and you’re feeling nerves. Take a deep breath and remember that you’ve got this. Now all you have to do is show up and be yourself. The camera will love you for it.
