What to wear by a Ryde Portrait Photographer
When you get ready for your natural portrait session in Ryde you might find yourself struggling to decide what to wear. You’ve chosen your photographer ….. made your appointment ….. you fling open the wardrobe doors and declare – I HAVEN’T GOT A THING TO WEAR.
Thankfully the solution to this problem is pretty simple – you just need to choose 2 or 3 outfits that fit you well, make you feel good and are already hanging up in your wardrobe.
Create your best portraits ever
With nothing more complicated than a blazer, a summer dress and a striking evening outfit I’ve put together 3 quick tips on what to wear and why they create portraits full of style and personality.
#1 – Blazer, skinny jeans and a loose fitting T.
The first outfit is a ‘weekend’ affair – clothes that you feel comfortable travelling across London in. Clothes that make you feel confident and can be easily livened up with props – scarves, hats, and jewellery will add style to an outfit and give your images more visual interest.
Why it works
The outfit has a similar colour palette and conveys clear vision of your style. Think about one or two colours you love. I normally start with one item of clothing that is an old favourite. Then I select additional items such as shoes, handbags or scarves in the same palette.
#2 – Seasonal
The second outfit will reflect the season- slipping on a summery dress and sun hat or shrugging on a warm, winter coat is perfect for creating a second look quickly and easily. A well planned seasonal outfit will bring so much life and dimension to the photos.
Why it works
They way you wear your clothes is an essential part of the overall portrait. The type of coat you choose, for example, will convey mood and character. Think about a dusty military over coat or a patch-pocket blazer – the way you hold your body will convey a very different message for each.
#3 – Wear an outfit that makes you feel WOW
The final outfit is the most daring- mix it up a little! Think ‘what would I wear on a first date’ or ‘what do I wear for a night on the tiles’. After two hours we are best of friends, we’ll have got use to each other’s company and know how to play to the camera.
Why it works
Choosing a striking outfit shifts the balance and draws attention to the strength of your gaze and expression. The key is not to force your final choice – if you feel comfortable, this will show through in your portraits.
Get the best from your outfit:
- Texture and fabrics make your complexion appear luminous
- Accessories add variety – head wear, costume jewellery and shoes
- Colour palette – 1 base colour and 1 colour pop
- Layering clothes adds depth and dimension
How I’ll help you:
My aim is take photographs that scream ‘yay – that’s me’.
If you don’t feel comfortable with your portrait session, it’ll show through.
I make sure that you get my style guides and posing tips ahead of time. Ask your photographer to make you look stylish and feel good, so you won’t have to worry about that.
