Planning for your photo shoot
How many apps do you have on your phone? It’s a real question. I have a whole page dedicated my instagram, pinterest, photography forum, filters, light meters and cheat sheets. Obsessed? You bet. I have a tried and tested method for planning for a photo shoot using my phone – I reinvent a style I’m drawn to and create a story board.
o Step 1 – collect inspiration on pinterest
o Step 2 – share the style board with my friend
o Step 3 – Go with the flow during the session
Be honest – what do you want people to say?
Normally there’s a key moment or special occasion that starts an interest in photography. Documenting your life is the most important thing for photographers. Take a look at each portrait, try to break down the photo and figure out what you love about it. If you’re able to share this with your photographer, you can have a go at recreating it using the aspects you love and with the photographer’s own vision.
o Are you drawn to full length, mid-length or close ups
o How do you see yourself – fun, elegant or wistful
o Do you prefer black & white, colour or textured?
How I’ll look after you
Good photography does not happen by chance. Sharing ideas, comparing notes and giggling over outfits is the best way to agree on your vision.Once the details have been finalised, you can then enjoy the session – go with the flow and be prepared to feed off the energy generated during the shoot to reinvent your ideas. As you can see the final image below is very different from the story board, but the atmosphere is maintain.
There’s always a lull during a session – when we’re having some downtime, I’ll pull out my phone and share more ideas from my apps!
