Natural portraits – Bishopsgate Gardens – London photographer
It felt great to meet with A, C and mum this week by platform 4, Liverpool Street. We’d arranged a collaboration in the summer as A. has recently won the ‘Miss Photogenic’ judged pageant! As soon as I saw the diamante crown on Facebook I knew I wanted to explore a little spot I’ve been saving for just the right family!
“Would highly recommend this photographer, absolutely wonderful to work with, very professional and my children were very comfortable with her! ” natural child portrait photography, London
Introducing Miss Photogenic
I knew right away the background would make an attractive backdrop for the children’s simplicity. Once I’d introduced the girls and stood back to watch them play, it was a matter of waiting for inspirational images to present themselves.
Trying to pose a young child can be restricting and produce static results.
Setting up the atmosphere first by reading them a story about a naughty princess, I then allowed the children to act out the narrative, creating spontaneous and relaxed pictures.
“Amanda already has a lot of experience working with children and this very much showed on the shoot, she was highly prepared, read them a story at first to help build their confidence in her, played games with them, sang and encouraged them through words and constant praise!” natural child portrait photography, London
I wanted the children to enjoy their experience and develop a closer relationship with each other through play.
Standing back and watching the girls interact naturally allowed me to capture photographs showing their personalities in their natural element. I wanted them to feel comfortable and secure – to just be themselves.
The family was going to spend the rest of their day out in London visiting the National History museum and I knew they’d have a long day ahead of them.
The session lasted 90 minutes – I promised mum we’d called it a day as soon as the children had, had enough.
But not until we’d played with bubbles, bean bags, gold stars and whistles!
Rather than impose formal restrictions on young children, I always create an atmosphere of trust, mutual respect and FUN!
“She never made them feel uncomfortable or persuaded then to do anything they didn’t want to! Would definitely work with her again xx” natural child portrait photography, London
If these approaches work for your family, then call me to see what you can expect when booking your professional photographer.
I’ll be posting more ideas next week, for now enjoy these other posts:
