Elements to natural portrait photos from an Isle of Wight Photographer

Isle of Wight Photographer

There are so many elements that make a successful portrait, but if you focus on having fun, you will quickly gain in confidence and enjoy your images. Start with sharing your mental check list with the photographer, what are the ‘must-have’ shots? Your photographer will want to recognise important moments as they occur.Natural-Portrait-London-photographer_0219Natural-Portrait-Ryde-Photographer-4

Key to Success:

  • feel at ease
  • be prepared
  • use close-by locations
  • share your ‘must-have’ shots e.g. family questionnaire

Once you’ve narrowed down your date, location and theme for the photo session, the hard part is over. It is time for everyone to have fun. Your photographer will allow time for the portrait session to flow naturally.
Real interactions and connections unfold naturally.
As you walk through Appley park or play with your dog on Priory Bay, your photographer will move quickly, focusing on the action surrounding your family. It’s a wonderful time to record the happy times you have together, these moments are precious.

Elements for success:

  1. Locations – these add to your family’s story
  2. Create interest – use your hobbies and interests to add authenticity
  3. Additional details – look for moments that complete the picture of the outing
  4. Love, pride and connections – use the day to capture these emotions
  5. Have fun – reflect spontaneous emotions of the day

Feeling unprepared will produce images where you look distracted.  It will be hard to act spontaneously. Once you find the right photographer and share your ideas over the phone, you’ll nail all the elements to natural portraits.

Remember these guidelines are just that, you can stretch, bend or completely break these rules to suit your family.Natural-Portrait-Ryde-Photographer-4Natural-Portrait-Ryde-Photographer-4

If you’re not sure how portrait sessions work, these solutions will be for you. Better still, get in touch and let me know your ‘must-have’ shots for your family or submit your ideas using these 6 simple questions.

I hope you find these tips helpful and that your next natural portrait session in London is a hoot. I’d love to know which tip you think is the most helpful, your thoughts on the blog and all things photographic!
